Methanol is very poisonous. It is also known as methyl alcohol,
wood alcohol, wood naphtha or wood spirits, is a chemical with the
formula CH3OH.
Most cases of poisoning caused by methanol,
occur as a result of ignorance or stupidity, when it has been
mistaken for ethanol.
Even a few ounces can be fatal if it is drunk
undiluted, but it is often taken together with ethanol, which
ssomewhat reduces the poisoning process. Even if the victim
survives, permanent brain damage often remains, especially in
the visual cortex
In industries it is often used as a solvent.
Methanol is often used as an antifreeze.
